How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
1) How we empower underrepresented groups: Most of the 600 million smallholder farmers globally lack education, awareness and incentives to switch to regenerative agriculture. Through Varaha, smallholders receive tangible economic rewards for their environmental stewardship. They gain access to cutting-edge sustainable farming techniques, carbon credit markets, and financial opportunities that were previously out of reach. We have a strong commitment to empowering tribal and indigenous communities through our agroforestry projects, particularly in tribal districts of South India and in remote mountainous regions of Nepal, where we are distributing fruit and nut tree saplings. We are distributing biochar as a bio-fertilizer to the impoverished Maldhari community in the Banni grasslands of Gujarat, helping them restore degraded agricultural land. In our enhanced rock weathering project, we are spreading basalt over the fields of smallholder cotton farmers, helping improve their productivity and soil fertility. 2) Representation in our organization: Varaha’s COO, Ankita Jain, is a woman. More than half of Varaha’s staff are below the age of 35 and we strongly believe in youth representation. Varaha’s CEO, Madhur Jain, himself hails from a rural region of the Himalayas and has dedicated himself to uplifting smallholder farmers.
