Project Summary / Description:
VERDE Recycler is a recycler that promotes inclusive recycling, working with local collectors and recycling programs.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Verde cycler empowers local recyclers, especially women and youth, who are often the most economically and socially vulnerable. Through our my waste picker program we provide technical training, as well as connect them with local business allies so that they can receive direct and safe income from solid waste. For women we have a special program called empower yourself as a woman in which we work on mental health, emotional issues and the different challenges faced by recycler mothers, in this way we dignify their work and open more doors to new economic opportunities and study opportunities that we share with their children. 50% of our beneficiaries are women, many of them single mothers who find in recycling a source of income. We also work with young people from vulnerable communities, involving them in educational programs and encouraging their leadership in environmental initiatives. This improves their living conditions, but also creates a network of committed climate change agents. Our environmental education campaigns include all types of young people in Peru. In green we not only want to involve the collectors of the companies' businesses but also these young people so that they can develop all their environmental leadership skills.
