How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project directly benefits low-income communities and communities of color. Low-income communities and communities of color are 28% more likely to be exposed to harmful diesel emissions because industrial centers and construction site are disproportionately located in these areas. By replacing diesel generators with zero-emission hydrogen power, we can eliminate both the greenhouse gas emissions and harmful air pollutants that disproportionately affect these communities. Verne actively partners with community-based organizations to ensure our technology development and deployment align with community priorities. For example, we have engaged with Cool OC and Long Beach Gray Panthers to engage communities in Southern California who are significantly impacted by diesel emissions from construction and port operations. These partnerships help us understand community concerns and ensure our solutions deliver meaningful benefits. Within our organization, we prioritize building a diverse and inclusive team. Our recruiting focuses on reaching candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in clean energy. We have engaged advisors like Dolly Singh, former Head of Talent at SpaceX, to help develop inclusive hiring practices and create pathways for diverse talent to join and grow within Verne.
