Name of Project:
Year Project Originated:
Project Summary / Description:
Stand.earth’s Fossil Free Fashion campaign seeks to help foster a climate-safe and just world by moving the fashion and apparel sector, a major carbon-intensive sector of the global economy, away from fossil fuels and toward renewable-powered production and manufacturing.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Stand’s project is designed to center/elevate the voices of groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the global climate movement, in this case garment workers, women, and climate-vulnerable communities in Bangladesh. Because workers/frontline communities bear the brunt of both pollution from fossil fuel-based manufacturing and the economic risks of the energy transition, our approach places them at the core of decision-making. We work with local partners, labor groups, and community-based organizations to ensure workers’ concerns, especially those of women, who make up the majority of the garment workforce, are integrated into brand expectations and just transition strategies. By pushing fashion brands to adopt worker-centric measures, we help shift power away from multinational companies toward the people most affected by supply chain impacts. This includes advocating for transparency, participation, and protections related to jobs, health, and community wellbeing. Within Stand, our team includes staff who come from and work closely with climate-vulnerable regions. We are expanding in-region capacity to ensure local leadership shapes campaign strategy. Through intentional partnerships, regional coordination, and cross-movement collaboration, the project strengthens the influence of workers, women, and frontline communities - ensuring they are not only protected in the energy transition but positioned as key drivers of change.
