Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

The Solar Bio project of Mothers’ Union Diocese of Soroti intentionally empowers groups that are often underrepresented in the climate movement—especially women, youth, and climate-vulnerable rural communities. As a women-led, faith-based organization, Mothers’ Union is rooted at the grassroots, with women forming the majority of our leadership, membership, and beneficiaries. This ensures that climate solutions are shaped by those most affected by energy poverty, deforestation, and indoor air pollution.

Through the Solar Bio project, women are trained as installers, operators, and peer educators, building technical skills, confidence, and income opportunities while reducing the unpaid labor burden of fuel collection. Youth are engaged as technicians and climate ambassadors, gaining green skills and leadership experience. The project prioritizes low-income households, schools, and health facilities that are highly vulnerable to climate and energy shocks.

Decision-making is participatory, with community women’s groups involved in planning, implementation, and monitoring. By centering local knowledge, faith networks, and women’s leadership, the project not only delivers clean energy but also amplifies the voices, agency, and visibility of underrepresented groups in climate action at community and diocesan levels.
