How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Switch2Gas intentionally empowers women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities. Over 65% of project beneficiaries are women, as they are primary household energy users and decision-makers. The project trains women as local energy agents, providing income-generating opportunities and leadership roles in energy transition. Youth volunteers lead awareness campaigns and monitor LPG adoption through mobile data systems, enhancing their digital and entrepreneurial skills. The project also prioritizes low-income peri-urban communities—those most affected by air pollution and deforestation. By promoting access to clean energy, Switch2Gas addresses energy inequality, improves health, and supports economic inclusion, aligning with SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 7 (Clean Energy), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
Mission Statement:
To accelerate access to clean, affordable, and sustainable energy solutions that reduce carbon emissions, improve public health, and foster climate resilience in underserved communities across Malawi and beyond.
