Project Summary / Description:

Launched by Mita Project, this initiative combines regenerative agriculture and AI-powered digital tools to reduce emissions and restore soil carbon across West Africa. Through training, last-mile input delivery, and TikaHarvest platform, over 3,000 smallholder farmers (65% women) in Côte d’Ivoire receive hyper-local climate advisories via SMS/USSD to optimize planting, fertilizer use, and soil management. The initiative directly mitigates CO₂ and N₂O emissions while improving yields and livelihoods. Now entering its growth stage, it is scaling regionally to reach 100,000 farmers by 2030, transforming smallholder farming into a force for climate resilience and carbon removal.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Mita Project was founded to put climate solutions directly in the hands of those most affected yet least represented in the global climate movement: smallholder farmers, especially women and youth in rural West Africa. Across our programs, 65% of participating farmers are women, many of whom serve as lead trainers within their communities. Through regenerative agriculture and financial literacy training, they gain both climate resilience and economic agency. 
Our initiative also empowers youth field coordinators and digital fellows who manage the TikaHarvest platform, ensuring that rural voices shape the development of AI-powered tools and localized climate advisories. This bottom-up participation creates new green livelihoods while bridging digital and gender divides.
Within our organization, women hold key leadership roles, including Community Lead & Gender Specialist and Field Operations, ensuring gender equity at every decision level.
By coupling inclusive governance with grassroots innovation, Mita Project transforms underrepresented communities into active climate leaders — restoring soils, reducing emissions, and redefining what equitable climate action looks like across Côte d’Ivoire and beyond.
