How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project directly empowers climate-vulnerable communitiesespecially smallholder farmers, women, and youth who are often excluded from climate decision-making and lack access to modern agricultural tools. In Zambia and across Africa, these groups bear the highest burden of climate impacts, yet they have the least resources to adapt. Mytochondria bridges this gap by providing affordable soil testing, data-driven recommendations, and soon IoT-enabled insights that improve yields, restore soil health, and build long-term climate resilience. This enables farmers with limited resources to make informed decisions, reduce input waste, and safeguard their livelihoods against unpredictable weather patterns. Women and youth farmers are intentionally prioritized in our outreach and training programs, ensuring equitable participation in climate-smart agriculture. We work directly with rural cooperatives and women-led farming groups to make our services accessible and culturally appropriate. Within our organization, underrepresented groups play central leadership roles. Mytochondria is co-founded by a woman and has women in senior leadership positions, including oversight of operations and agronomy. Our team also includes young professionals driving innovation in AI, electronics, and sustainable agriculture. By placing marginalized communities at the center of both our impact and our governance, Mytochondria ensures that climate solutions are inclusive, accessible, and locally driven.
