Great Green Farmers aims to strengthen food security and support rural livelihoods in Senegal through a climate-resilient agricultural model that combines mid-tech bamboo greenhouses with agroforestry systems integrating fruit and nut trees. This model provides smallholder farmers with a profitable model that enables year-round vegetable production, achieving yields 4-10 times higher than conventional farming systems in Senegal. It has the potential to increase farmers' income more than tenfold, while combating desertification through reforestation.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

More than 50% of the rural population in Senegal lives in poverty, and 70% of its rural population depends on agriculture for their livelihoods. One farmer from Kholpa, Abdou Faye, earned around €900 per year. With a family of seven to support, this income barely allowed them to buy enough food for everyone. With our greenhouse-agroforestry system, Abdou will earn a dignified income. His children will be able to attend school, and his wife will be able to receive treatment for cataracts.

Smallholders are central to Féro’s mission. Despite producing the largest share of the country’s agricultural output, they are often in a highly economically vulnerable position. Our projects place them at the core, transforming the effort to bend the Keeling Curve downward into a profitable business for them.
Within the smallholder group, our projects prioritize women and youth. Rural women in Senegal produce up to 80% of the country’s food. Yet, they face significant disparities in access to land, training, and agricultural inputs. 

Inclusivity is also central within our organization. Féro is a youth-led organization, with most team members under the age of 30. Women hold key leadership roles, including in project management and marketing.
