Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

SCS operates around the world, with staff reflecting diverse geographies, industries, and cultures. Our leadership has strong representation from women and people of color, including corporate Chief of Staff (Diana Kirsanova-Phillips), climate division head (Christie Pollet-Young), and SVP Revenue (Vikas Ahuja). Company co-founder Linda Brown is GHR’s leadership advisor. GHR’s six-person core team includes five women, two of whom are of color.

In terms of empowerment, GHR will incentivize action to tackle super pollutants, including deadly industrial air pollutants like black carbon, methane, and ozone. Black carbon emitted from cooking fuels, agricultural burning, brick kilns, and waste incineration devastate communities, particularly harmful to pregnant women and children. In the methane-emitting waste sector, many female waste pickers often do the most unsafe jobs. Asthma and respiratory illness are leading diseases and causes of death in heavily polluted regions around the world.
 
Mitigation projects that target super pollutants can improve air quality while simultaneously generating new income streams for local communities. This creates opportunities to improve the lives of underemployed men, women, and children through better education, improved healthcare, and increased capital. GHR recognizes the importance of the gender impacts of our work and will track SDG-5 co-benefits under our project methodologies.
