Project Summary / Description:

Our initiative promotes climate-smart agriculture and compost production to improve soil fertility, reduce waste, and enhance food security in Goma, DRC. We train and support women and youth farmers to adopt sustainable practices, transform organic waste into compost, and increase crop productivity while mitigating climate impacts and strengthening community resilience.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Our project directly empowers underrepresented groups—women, youth, and climate-vulnerable smallholder farmers—by providing access to resources, training, and income-generating opportunities in climate-smart agriculture. In Goma and surrounding areas, women often face limited land access, technical knowledge, and financial resources. Through targeted training and inclusion in compost production and sustainable farming initiatives, we equip them with practical skills, leadership experience, and the ability to improve household food security and income.

Youth are engaged as key actors in waste collection, compost processing, and farm management, building their professional skills and fostering local climate leadership. By prioritizing participation of climate-vulnerable communities, we ensure solutions are contextually relevant, addressing both environmental and socio-economic challenges.

Within our organization, women occupy leadership roles, including project coordination and community engagement, while youth staff are actively involved in operations and training delivery. This internal representation ensures decision-making reflects the perspectives of the groups we serve and strengthens program design.

By integrating empowerment and representation into both governance and operations, our project not only advances climate action but also fosters equity, inclusion, and community resilience in a region where underrepresented groups face disproportionate vulnerability to environmental change.
