How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

This project ensures groups historically left out of climate initiatives become agents of change, knowledge holders, and co-creators of climate solutions. These groups encounter limited access to land, technology, finance, formal extension, and leadership opportunities in climate governance. They include;
•	Rural women and youth smallholder farmers
•	Poor households and widows marginalized farmer groups 
•	Last-mile agro-processors and local biochar producers from low-income communities
The project uses a bottom-up co-design approach, ensuring that women and youth are involved from project inception through planning, implementation, and monitoring. This shifts power towards those who are typically excluded from climate planning processes
Structure training will be provided for the underrepresented groups to help them develop technical and leadership capacities to enable them participate meaningfully in climate action beyond the project
The project ensures the underrepresented groups get equal access to biochar technology and maintenance skills
The project strengthens the economic position of underrepresented groups through linkages to project off-takers to generate incomes for reduced poverty
AFNEED’s governance structure integrates representation of underrepresented groups through a Gender and Social Inclusion policy, gender balanced community focal points, commitment to at least 50% female and 30% youth representation in trainings, and inclusive participatory project monitoring
