Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Healthy Pets actively empowers groups underrepresented in the climate movement, particularly women and youth from rural areas and underserved communities, by creating green economic opportunities directly within a circular economy framework.

The project achieves this by becoming the guaranteed off-taker for farmers' by-products, and a significant number of these smallholder farmers are women. We off-take and aggregate these high-value by-products and cereals from rural and underserved communities, providing them with reliable, new income streams that bypass volatile local markets. This approach promotes sustainable production and consumption while directly contributing to environmental conservation through drastic waste reduction.

By formalizing the waste stream and creating stable, green jobs in collection, processing, and production, the project is dignifying waste handlers' jobs and motivating youth to venture into formalized green businesses. The organization reflects this commitment through its leadership, which includes women in key technical and operational roles, such as Anne Wanjiku (Procurement & Quality) and Dr. Faith Atieno (Vet Nutrition Advisor). Their presence ensures that the project’s mission and implementation are informed by and responsive to the needs of the diverse communities Healthy Pets serves.
