The project aims to restore and revitalize 20,000 hectares of degraded agricultural land privately owned by farmers, empowering them to adopt diverse, native agroforestry systems across India.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

The project supports rural smallholders and women farmers underrepresented in climate finance, decision-making, and benefit. Climate finance is largely channelled through centralised government, multilateral, and corporate systems that require documentation, financial literacy, and institutional presence many rural smallholders lack. Women farmers lack formal land titles, limiting eligibility. Gender norms, time poverty, and restricted mobility further constrain participation, despite high climate vulnerability.

In the project regions, this exclusion is apparent. Limited access to knowledge and resources has driven reliance on monoculture and chemical inputs for short-term income. This has led to soil degradation, loss of biodiversity, and groundwater depletion. Farm productivity has declined, increasing exposure to market and climate shocks.

The initiative enables farmers to transition toward resilient, biodiverse agroforestry systems that improve soil, restore ecosystems, and strengthen livelihoods. Participation is supported through inclusive consultations, awareness programmes, collective decision-making, and grievance redressal mechanisms, with farmers engaged as project signatories. The project provides training, technical support, planting materials, and direct carbon revenue sharing, enabling reinvestment and long-term income stability. Women farmers are prioritized for participation, capacity building, and leadership roles.

Impact will be measured through employment generation (~1,000+jobs), improved livelihoods (~20,000families), enhanced food security, diversified income, and long-term income growth (2.5times baseline).
