How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Carbion empowers underrepresented groups by integrating rural and forestry-based communities into the core of the clean energy value chain. Regions such as Vermont and the broader northeastern forest economies have long played a role in land stewardship and biomass management, yet have been largely excluded from the economic upside of climate technology and advanced manufacturing. By sourcing waste biomass from forestry and agricultural operations and locating early development and pilot activities near these regions, we create new, higher-value market opportunities for local suppliers and workers. This approach supports job creation and skills development in communities that are often overlooked in climate investment, while strengthening domestic supply chains. Within the organization, Carbion emphasizes inclusive hiring, early responsibility, and cross-functional exposure, enabling young engineers and operators from diverse backgrounds to gain hands-on experience in climate manufacturing and scale-up. The team also collaborates with regional partners to ensure responsible biomass sourcing and long-term community engagement. By shifting climate-critical manufacturing closer to resource-rich but historically underinvested regions, Carbion ensures that the benefits of decarbonization extend beyond traditional technology hubs and are shared more broadly across communities contributing to the energy transition.
