Project Summary / Description:
A scalable, climate-resilient greenhouse model designed to drastically reduce emissions from food production while increasing localized food access. The initiative integrates an engineered 96×30 high-efficiency greenhouse with passive solar design, automated environmental controls, and a year-round regenerative growing curriculum for schools and communities. The system reduces food miles, energy use, and waste while enabling communities to grow specialty crops locally, even in harsh climates. The model is shovel-ready, replicable, and already implemented across Central Oregon with measurable results in energy savings, food output, and community adoption.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project is designed around communities that have historically been excluded from the climate movement—particularly rural communities, Indigenous partners, refugees and immigrants, youth, and low-income families. By building climate-resilient food systems directly where people live, learn, and gather, we shift climate action from an abstract concept to something tangible, local, and empowering. We partner with tribal nations, schools, food banks, and community health organizations to ensure that decision-making, stewardship, and participation comes from within these communities. Each greenhouse becomes a teaching and growing hub where youth and families gain hands-on experience in climate-smart agriculture, energy-efficient growing, and food sovereignty. As an immigrant-founded organization, Shakti Farm Design brings lived experience and cultural understanding to the work. Our leadership reflects the populations we serve, and our collaborative model is intentionally community-led—centering on voices that traditional climate funding often overlooks. By improving access to healthy food, building local capacity, and involving youth and families in climate-resilient agriculture, the project empowers communities not only to adapt to climate impacts but to take leadership in shaping a more equitable and sustainable future.
