Project Summary / Description:

The IRMAD Community Climate Action Initiative empowers local communities in Taviefe and surrounding areas to actively combat climate change through ecosystem restoration, agroforestry, and clean energy adoption. By planting trees, establishing agroforestry systems, and introducing improved cookstoves and solar energy solutions, the initiative simultaneously sequesters carbon, reduces emissions, enhances biodiversity, and improves local livelihoods. Women, youth, and vulnerable groups are prioritized in training and leadership roles, ensuring inclusive participation and equitable benefits. Through community-led monitoring and capacity building, the initiative creates a replicable and scalable model for climate action that delivers measurable environmental, social, and economic impacts.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Our project deliberately centers underrepresented and climate-vulnerable groups, including women, youth, and rural communities, as active participants in climate solutions. Women and youth are prioritized in training programs for tree planting, agroforestry, and clean energy adoption, ensuring they gain skills, leadership opportunities, and decision-making power within their communities. By promoting gender equity in participation, we help address social barriers that often limit women’s involvement in environmental initiatives.

Youth engagement is also central: we establish local climate clubs and mentorship programs that empower young people to lead conservation and clean energy projects, creating a pipeline of informed, motivated climate leaders. Community members, particularly from marginalized or low-income households, are involved in planning, monitoring, and evaluating interventions, fostering local ownership and equitable benefit-sharing.

Within our organization, women hold leadership roles, including project management and decision-making positions, while youth and community representatives are included in advisory committees. This ensures that the voices of underrepresented groups shape both organizational strategy and project implementation. By combining inclusive governance with participatory project design, we create scalable climate solutions that are socially equitable, resilient, and reflective of the communities we serve.
