Project Summary / Description:
A community-centered fruit processing project that converts surplus fruits into wine, providing farmers with a stable market, reducing post-harvest losses, and promoting conservation and expansion of fruit trees for improved livelihoods and environmental sustainability.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project empowers climate vulnerable rural communities by turning a common livelihood challenge fruit losses into a stable source of income and climate resilience. Smallholder farmers in rural Uganda, many of whom are excluded from formal climate programs, benefit directly through guaranteed fruit purchases. Additionally, Women and youth will actively involved in fruit aggregation, processing, quality control, packaging, and local marketing roles that provide steady income and skills development.
Mission Statement:
To promote sustainable fruit farming by providing a reliable market through value addition, reducing post-harvest waste, and empowering communities to conserve and expand fruit tree plantations for economic growth, food security, and environmental restoration.
