How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
GridFlow Solar is built around the belief that climate solutions must center the people most affected by energy poverty. Our project directly empowers women, youth, and climate-vulnerable rural communities by placing them not just as beneficiaries, but as active co-owners and decision-makers of the solar microgrids that power their lives. Our pilot community, including schools like Mariari Girls, represents groups often excluded from energy planning. Rural students, women-led households, and families living with the daily burden of unreliable electricity. By designing community-owned systems, we redistribute power literally and socially, so these groups have long-term control, financial participation, and sustained benefits. We also emphasize local job creation through installation, maintenance, and energy-efficiency training programs targeted specifically at youth and women. This ensures that economic opportunities remain within the community. As a young African founder myself, I represent the demographic often missing from high-level climate decision-making. Through programs such as HSC Youth Ambassadors, beVisioneers: The Mercedes-Benz Fellowship, and Changemakers Africa, I actively bring youth perspectives and lived experience of energy inequality into global climate spaces. Our project is not only designed for underrepresented communities, it is shaped with them, ensuring their leadership, ownership, and dignity remain at the center of every decision.
