Project Summary / Description:
As explained above, the first step in any ballot initiative campaign is to conduct a robust poll to determine the optimal ballot language phrasing. Widespread and robust polling has already been conducted on the policy in general in each of the states of interest, but more information must be gathered in order to determine not only ballot language but also campaign strategy and optimal states for 2028. Furthermore, robust poll numbers are a necessary prerequisite for securing campaign funding from philanthropic and labor organizations.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
As mentioned above, our project is led by me, and I am 27. But this barely scratches the surface in terms of how we empower underrepresented groups. Our project allows everyone within a given jurisdiction to make the biggest impact of their lifetimes thus far by simply voting on a policy. Direct democracy empowers everyday citizens to have a direct say in the policies that govern them, beyond simply voting for representatives, who time and again sell them out in favor of powerful special interest groups. One merely needs to examine the history of ballot initiatives to learn about the incredible impact that they have had on underrepresented groups throughout our country’s history: they were the undisputed catalyst in prompting the passage of the 19th Amendment, and have recently been used to pass socially progressive policies such as marriage equality. And that’s not all: beyond giving citizens the ability to vote on aggressive climate policy, we will work hard to involve all groups in our campaigns, especially youth (we are already in communication with the Sunrise Movement): after all, climate change will affect all of us, but its effect can only increase for those of us who are around longest.
