Project Summary / Description:

Treecological is an initiative where individuals, organisations and companies can contribute to the climate by supporting one of our Treecological projects. A Treecological project differs from other projects in our BOS+ portfolio because the climate impact is calculated and measured during the long-term, usually 20 years. Our Treecological initiative includes a specific website (www.treecological.be), aimed mostly at individuals, where you can calculate the emissions of, for example, your flight, and immediately have a possibility to contribute to a project. Treecological previously provided carbon from a Flemish project, one if not the only project of its kind. Treecological is therefore mostly aimed at Flemish individuals and companies. Treecological uses a contribution approach; we do not allow discounting our carbon from emissions. At the same time, science-based, additional calculations are made following methods from high quality carbon compensation projects, and the core carbon principles. In this way, Treecological helps BOS+ to increase forests and provide the BOS+ triple win of climate, biodiversity and people.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

BOS+ collaborates with different national partner organisations in all of its countries of intervention (Uganda, DRC, Ethiopia, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru). These organisations are mainly non-governmental nature conservation and restoration organisations who collaborate directly with local organisations to ensure their direct involvement. These local organisations are producers' organizations, management groups of protected areas, indigenous communities and indigenous umbrella organisations. These local partners ensure that local people are involved, and their needs are seriously taken into account.	
We manage clear ethical guidelines for our own functioning and expect the same of our partner organisations. They are very explicit in terms of respect for human rights, integrity, inclusivity and impartiality. 
In our over 20 years of experience in Latin-America, we have worked successfully in different contexts, always in rural areas, with different women groups, indigenous people, and youth groups from local colleges. 
In the projects we always contract local labour under correct working conditions and payments.
 In the projects their benefits are also included, this can be under different mechanisms:  the tree species selected for medicinal, cultural and nutritional needs, fuelwood cutting and wood harvesting allowed as a certain % of trees planted, incentives, a communal emergency fund.
