Project Summary / Description:
Libran is a modular carbon-capture-and-conversion system designed for factories across Africa struggling with rising emissions costs, compliance pressures, and lack of accessible CCUS options. Unlike conventional systems that require heavy infrastructure, Libran uses a low-energy membrane reactor that captures CO₂ directly from flue gas and mineralises it on-site into stable carbonates, enabling permanent storage with minimal water and energy demand. The system integrates automated measurement for verifiable credits and operates under a Capture-as-a-Service model to reduce upfront costs for industrial partners. Libran provides a practical pathway for African industries to achieve measurable decarbonisation while generating financial value from captured CO₂.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
1101 Technologies is led by a woman founder and intentionally designs solutions that prioritise and foster the engagement of women and youth in STEM-related projects, and impact for climate-vulnerable communities. Libran enables African industries often operating in regions with limited access to climate technology, to participate in global carbon markets, reducing economic exclusion.
Mission Statement:
1101 Technologies exists to build science-driven, locally engineered climate solutions that help African industries and communities reduce emissions, manage climate risks, and create sustainable economic value. Through carbon capture, climate intelligence, circular materials, and energy storage, we unlock a more resilient, low-carbon future that is affordable, and scalable.
