Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Pinera is designed to deliver climate solutions in regions and communities that are often underrepresented in both the climate movement and clean technology deployment. The project focuses on rural, forest-adjacent communities that experience disproportionate impacts from wildfires, environmental degradation, and limited economic opportunities. By creating value from locally available pine needle biomass, Pinera aims to generate decentralized income opportunities linked to biomass collection, preprocessing, and early-stage manufacturing. These activities can be integrated into existing rural livelihoods without requiring high capital or advanced technical training. Youth engagement is central to Pinera’s approach. As an early-stage, innovation-driven project, Pinera creates pathways for young professionals and local entrepreneurs to participate in climate action through technical development, operations, and impact measurement. Within the organization, representation is currently limited due to its early-stage nature. However, Pinera is committed to inclusive hiring and partnership practices as it scales, prioritizing local participation, skills development, and fair access to economic benefits in the communities where it operates.
Mission Statement:
To reduce climate risk by transforming wildfire-prone forest waste into low-carbon building materials that protect forests, communities, and the climate.
