How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
AgriCycle Uganda centers women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities as primary actors in climate solutions, addressing systemic underrepresentation in the energy and conservation sectors. Women—especially those from refugee-hosting areas, IDP settlements, and with disabilities—lead biochar briquette production hubs, making key decisions on operations, resource management, and climate advocacy. Youth are engaged in technical roles, monitoring forest health and carbon sequestration, while building leadership and entrepreneurial skills. By creating safe, accessible, and women-led production spaces, the project dismantles barriers that traditionally exclude marginalized groups from participating in climate action. Decision-making bodies, including the Women’s Energy & Conservation Taskforce, are composed entirely of these groups, ensuring their voices guide strategy, policy engagement, and outreach. The initiative also provides mentorship, capacity-building workshops, and advocacy training to amplify marginalized voices in local, district, and national climate discussions. Through income generation, technical skills, and leadership opportunities, the project empowers historically excluded communities to be climate solution leaders, creating a model for inclusive, equitable, and socially transformative environmental action.
