Project Summary / Description:
KBCOLS Sciences Pvt. Ltd. is an early-stage climate biotech company addressing one of the most carbon-intensive and polluting segments of global manufacturing: textile dyeing. Conventional dyeing relies on petroleum-derived chemical dyes and energy-intensive processes that consume large quantities of fossil fuels and generate highly polluted wastewater. KBCOLS has developed microbial bio-colorants produced from renewable biological sources that function as a drop-in replacement for conventional dyes. Independent Measurement & Verification studies conducted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) under a UNIDO–BEE program confirmed that KBCOLS bio-colorants reduce thermal and electrical energy consumption by 15–22% in real industrial dyeing facilities. These energy savings translate directly into measured CO₂ emissions reductions, while also significantly lowering wastewater pollution loads (COD, BOD, and TDS) in most validated sites—reducing downstream treatment energy and environmental harm. The technology requires no major capital equipment changes, enabling rapid adoption across existing textile infrastructure. Replication modeling indicates that full adoption across India’s textile sector could reduce over 12 million tons of CO₂ annually, representing a meaningful, structural contribution to bending the Keeling Curve. By embedding emissions reduction directly into everyday industrial processes, KBCOLS offers a scalable, science-backed pathway to decarbonizing one of the world’s hardest-to-abate manufacturing sectors.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
KBCOLS’ impact is strongest in textile manufacturing regions that employ large numbers of women and rural workers. By reducing pollution and energy demand, the project improves working conditions and environmental health in climate-vulnerable communities.

Mission Statement:
KBCols mission is to decarbonize industrial dyeing by replacing petroleum-derived chemical dyes with scalable microbial bio-colorants, enabling energy savings, emissions reduction, and cleaner water systems across the global textile industry.
