How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Our project is rooted in coastal regions of northern Peru, where communities are highly vulnerable to plastic pollution and climate impacts. From the outset, we have created employment and income opportunities for local community members who are often underrepresented in the climate movement, including low-income households, youth, and informal waste collectors. A key partner of the company manages the recycling factory, providing technical oversight and ensuring safe, organized operations. The factory employs local workers, and while women have historically been underrepresented in industrial roles, we have successfully engaged female factory workers in operational and administrative tasks, demonstrating the potential for gender-inclusive employment in climate-focused manufacturing. We also collaborate closely with local plastic collectors, integrating them into a formal, value-generating supply chain and providing stable demand for materials that previously had no market. This empowers community members as active participants in climate solutions, while improving livelihoods. By combining local employment, skill development, and inclusion of women in factory roles, the project strengthens climate-vulnerable communities’ capacity to engage in sustainable economic activity and scalable climate action.
