How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Courageous Land operates primarily in rural and climate-vulnerable regions where communities are often underrepresented in the climate movement and face limited access to formal employment, technical training, and sustainable livelihoods. Across its projects, the majority of field workers come from vulnerable rural communities, particularly in southern Roraima, where economic opportunities are frequently linked to illegal deforestation and mining, or low-productivity cattle ranching. By offering formal employment, technical training, and long-term work linked to agroforestry restoration, the project provides a viable alternative rooted in legal, climate-positive land use. In Roraima, Courageous Land also employs and provides housing and formal work opportunities for Venezuelan refugees, supporting social inclusion and income stability in a region under significant migratory pressure. All projects are designed as landscape-scale initiatives that strengthen local economies through agroforestry and the development of local processing capacity for bioeconomy products, increasing value capture within communities. Within the organization, inclusion is reflected in leadership and staffing. Courageous Land is co-founded by Luiza Avelar, and approximately 30% of the corporate team is composed of women and LGBTQ+ professionals, contributing to diverse perspectives in decision-making and operations.
