How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
BioMassters works primarily with communities most affected by energy poverty and environmental degradation, including women, low-income households, and climate-vulnerable populations. Clean cooking has an immediate impact on women’s health and daily lives. By replacing charcoal and firewood with affordable pellets, we reduce smoke exposure, lower household fuel costs, and save time that would otherwise be spent managing inefficient cooking systems. Economic empowerment is built into our model. We train local masons, including women and young people, to build and install our Iryacu stoves, creating stable jobs in the green economy. Our retail and franchise network prioritizes community-based entrepreneurs, many of them women, who earn income by selling pellets within their own neighborhoods. In schools, kitchen staff benefit from safer working conditions and reduced physical strain. Within the organization, Rwandans lead operations, production, customer service, and sales. Women are represented across technical, commercial, and leadership roles rather than being confined to administrative positions. This ensures that the people most affected by climate change are directly involved in delivering and shaping practical, scalable energy solutions.
