Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Protone Energies empowers underrepresented groups by addressing climate and energy challenges faced by women, youth, and climate-vulnerable communities in Uganda. By extending the life of solar batteries at a fraction of replacement cost, our project ensures affordable, reliable energy for households, health centers, schools, and small businesses that would otherwise lose access to clean power. This directly benefits women-led households and enterprises, which are often most affected by energy insecurity.

Our operations create skilled and semi-skilled employment opportunities for youth, particularly in battery diagnostics, refurbishment, installations, and field operations. Through on-the-job training and mentorship, we build local technical capacity and pathways into the clean energy workforce.

Women are also represented in leadership and decision-making within the organization. Protone Energies is co-founded by a female mechanical engineer who leads operations and design, ensuring gender perspectives are embedded in technical and strategic decisions. Our administrative and support functions further prioritize inclusive hiring and safe, equitable workplaces.

By combining affordable clean energy access, local job creation, and inclusive leadership, Protone Energies advances climate solutions that are both technically effective and socially just, ensuring that those most impacted by climate change are active participants in the solution.
