Project Summary / Description:

MeerBomenNu is a Dutch volunteer movement founded in 2020 by MEERGroen, Urgenda, and Caring Farmers. Each planting season, thousands of volunteers rescue and replant tens of thousands of young trees (saplings) from places where they would not survive, aiming to boost CO₂ storage, strengthen biodiversity, and inspire climate action.

MeerBomenNu empowers underrepresented groups by making climate action accessible, local, and free. Our model removes financial and technical barriers, enabling anyone, regardless of income, background, or age, to participate. Activities are hands-on, social, and often family-friendly, attracting youth, women, and people from diverse communities. Volunteers work together outdoors, fostering inclusion and shared purpose. We collaborate with schools, mental health programs, and community organizations to engage those who rarely join climate initiatives. By turning concern into positive action, we give people a sense of agency and belonging. Our leadership and volunteer base reflect this diversity, with roles open to all and no hierarchy: everyone can lead and volunteer to join events.
