Project Summary / Description:
Zawiri Foods builds a regenerative supply chain production that increases soil organic carbon through continuous living roots and ground cover locking carbon into stronger soil structure while improving farmer resilience and incomes.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Zawiri Foods empowers underrepresented groups by making climate action pay for those most affected by climate change in Sub Saharan Africa. We work with smallholder farmers in climate vulnerable counties and prioritize the inclusion of women farmers and women led farmer groups in onboarding, training, and market participation, so they benefit directly from higher and more predictable incomes. Our regenerative, diverse crop systems strengthen soil health and resilience, reducing risk for households that have the least buffer against drought and market shocks. We also design participation to be accessible, including engaging farmers and workers with disabilities and the elderly. Representation is reflected in our leadership and delivery model, with women in core commercial leadership and a field structure implemented through local partners and farmer organizations that elevate community voices in decision making.

Mission Statement:
Our mission is to build a regenerative food system that helps smallholder farmers earn predictable, decent incomes from climate resilient production while drawing carbon and restoring ecosystems. We create fair, traceable market pathways for sustainably grown herbs and spices, so soil carbon restoration and economic opportunity scale together.
