RaySat provides an innovative, reality-based solution tackling the global challenge of freshwater depletion in agriculture, which it considers one of the largest consumers of water, with more than 90% of it being depleted in crop irrigation. In the absence of effective and sustainable water management, the region faces the risk of losing up to 50% of its strategic crops by 2050. Traditional irrigation practices lead to wide-scale waste of water, which increases the rates of displacement among local communities that lose their livelihoods. Therefore, there is an urgent need to make water management technologies affordable and easily accessible, and precision irrigation using satellite data represents a promising opportunity, but it faces challenges related to infrastructure, technical complexity, and high costs. RaySat solves the gap between the technology and its beneficiaries. The use of this technology will reduce the amount of fossil fuel used for irrigation, thereby reducing GHG.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
RaySat empowers underrepresented and climate-vulnerable communities in several key ways: Leadership and Representation: The project is co-led by Manar Jamal (female Co-Founder and COO), an agricultural engineer and GIS expert, representing women in a male-dominated tech and agriculture sector in Syria. The management team is 50% women, promoting gender equity in STEM and climate innovation. Beneficiaries: RaySat primarily serves smallholder farmers in drought-prone, conflict-affected regions of Syria (e.g., Al-Hasakah, central and southern areas), including rural communities facing water scarcity and livelihood threats due to climate change. These include elderly farmers with limited digital literacy, low-income households, and displaced families reliant on agriculture—highly vulnerable groups often excluded from advanced climate solutions. Accessibility: The platform’s low-data design, SMS/WhatsApp delivery, and Arabic localization ensure inclusion of farmers with limited internet, education, or technical skills, democratizing precision agriculture in underserved areas. Indigenous Connection: Founders belong to a historically rooted indigenous community in As-Suwayda Governorate, embedding local knowledge and cultural sensitivity into solutions. By making climate-resilient tools affordable and accessible, RaySat directly strengthens livelihoods and adaptive capacity of marginalized rural communities while amplifying underrepresented voices—women, youth, and vulnerable farmers—in climate action.
