Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

The Community-Owned Solar Micro-grids for Rural Namayingo project empowers underrepresented groups by ensuring that women, youth, and other vulnerable community members are actively involved in both decision-making and implementation. Women are engaged as energy committee members, micro-grid operators and financial managers, giving them leadership roles in a sector where they are often underrepresented. Youth are trained in technical installation, maintenance and monitoring, providing skills and employment opportunities that strengthen long-term community capacity.
By designing a participatory governance model, the project ensures equitable access to electricity for households, schools, and health centers, prioritizing groups most affected by energy poverty. Community consultations are conducted to identify local needs, with special attention to gender dynamics, accessibility and affordability, so that marginalized voices shape project design and operations.
Within our organization, women and youth hold key leadership and technical roles, including project coordination, technical management, and community engagement. This representation ensures that project decisions reflect diverse perspectives and address the unique challenges faced by underrepresented groups.
Through these measures, the project not only delivers clean energy but also advances social inclusion, strengthens community resilience and empowers groups that are often excluded from climate solutions, making the climate response more equitable and impactful.
