Project Summary / Description:

Our initiative will contribute to green economy promotion and development engaging small holders and landless by reusing/reclaiming the huge volume lands along the river basins which have been barren and degraded for a long time due to flash flood and inundation. This will facilitate the adaptation and resilient livelihood of the marginal community.  In addition, ecosystem restoration will be done due to the promotion of greenery through agroforestry plantation and vegetable cultivation, and thereby contribute to carbon accumulation too. Similarly, the promotion of clean cooking stoves will reduce the dependence on firewood and LP gas, along with the management of smoke-free kitchens, and will contribute greatly to forest conservation.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

JWAS is working in the social sector by being registered as a women led NGO since its inception and the current executive board of JWAS also has a majority of female members including Dalit and female president. Since our target communities are women/early married women, youths, marginal and minorities, it is also the main target of JWAS to make these households and communities participate and represent them in every process and outcomes of the program. For example, our project of electric cooking is also a project targeting women and children, because it has worked with the aim of making smoke free kitchens according to the concept of clean cooking for most of the women who work in the kitchen. And meantime, by saving the time of collecting firewood, it has helped them to look after their children and also helped in forest conservation. Apart from this, skill development programs and business promotion have been conducted for the youth through youth focus business enterprises. The participation of women and under-represented communities has also been ensured in plantation and forest management program. Moreover, we have special provisions to ensure women, Dalits, minorities and locals in staffing as well.
