Haryali Hi Jeevan Hai is a community-driven climate action initiative that promotes seed bombing, kitchen gardening, and recycling of green waste into organic manure. The project increases green cover, enhances soil carbon, reduces methane emissions from waste, and empowers underserved communities to adopt sustainable, low-carbon practices.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Our project intentionally works with groups who are underrepresented in the climate movement, including women, low-income urban communities, youth, and informal settlement residents. Women are central to our initiative as primary environmental stewards in households and communities. They lead composting practices, kitchen gardens, and plantation activities, gaining climate leadership, income opportunities, and decision-making confidence. Youth are engaged as Green Volunteers who participate in seed bomb drives, environmental education, and digital tracking of plantation and waste diversion.

We also work with climate-vulnerable communities living in urban slums and resettlement colonies who face heat stress, poor waste management, and limited access to green spaces. The project builds their adaptive capacity by improving local microclimates, providing shade, promoting fresh food through kitchen gardens, and reducing disease risks associated with unmanaged waste.

Within our organization, women hold key leadership and program management roles, and community volunteers come largely from the same underrepresented groups we serve. This ensures representation is not symbolic but embedded in decision-making, implementation, and benefit sharing. By promoting community-led climate action instead of top-down interventions, the project transforms marginalized residents into climate actors and local leaders.
