The Fireball Solar Ovens Deployment Initiative is an active clean-energy project that manufactures and distributes zero-emission solar ovens to low-income and disaster-affected households. By replacing fossil fuels and biomass used for cooking, the initiative directly reduces CO₂ emissions, deforestation, and indoor air pollution while improving food security, health, and household resilience through hands-on training and ongoing community use.

Fireball Solar Ovens empowers groups that are historically underrepresented in the climate movement by directly serving communities that bear disproportionate climate, health, and energy burdens—particularly low-income households, disaster-affected families, Indigenous communities, and communities of color. Cooking energy is a daily necessity, and by eliminating reliance on costly and polluting fuels, Fireball increases household autonomy, food security, and resilience in places where climate impacts are most acute.

Women—who are often primary household cooks and disproportionately affected by indoor air pollution—are key beneficiaries of Fireball’s deployment model. Access to a zero-emission cooking technology reduces exposure to smoke, lowers fuel costs, and saves time otherwise spent acquiring fuel. Fireball pairs technology distribution with hands-on training and culturally relevant cooking practices to support long-term adoption and local ownership.

Representation is embedded in Fireball’s governance and partnerships. The board includes leaders with backgrounds in sustainable agriculture and community-based food systems, including representation from Hawai‘i. Deployment is conducted through nonprofit, tribal, and local mission partners—such as in Kenya—who are embedded in the communities served and lead on-the-ground training, feedback, and implementation. This approach ensures that climate solutions are co-developed with, not imposed upon, climate-vulnerable communities.
