How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
ProofSource directly serves Uganda's 1.7 million smallholder coffee farming households—predominantly rural, low-income communities on the frontlines of climate change impacts including shifting rainfall patterns and temperature increases affecting coffee viability. These farmers face systemic exclusion from premium markets due to lack of verification infrastructure that large-scale producers possess. EUDR compliance requirements risk deepening this marginalization by creating barriers smallholders cannot independently overcome. ProofSource transforms this dynamic by providing accessible traceability that enables smallholders to access compliance-requiring markets previously available only to larger operations. This creates economic empowerment through: • Maintained EU market access representing 60-72% of Uganda's coffee exports • Potential premium pricing for verified deforestation-free coffee • Formal recognition as responsible forest stewards rather than presumed deforestation drivers The organization is founded and led by a Ugandan national with direct understanding of local agricultural contexts and smallholder challenges.
