How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
The project is rooted in coastal regions that are highly vulnerable to climate change and is led by communities that are often underrepresented in the climate movement. Implementation actively engages fishing communities, Dalit households, women, and youth as central actors in mangrove restoration rather than as passive beneficiaries. Women and youth are trained in nursery management, planting, monitoring, and site protection, strengthening their technical skills, leadership, and participation in local decision-making. Dalit and marginalized households are included through deliberate outreach and collective stewardship structures that ensure equitable roles, voice, and benefits. Within People’s Action for Development (PAD), leadership and staff are predominantly locally rooted, with strong representation of women and professionals from marginalized backgrounds. Long-term team members from the communities we serve hold program coordination and implementation roles, ensuring lived experience informs strategy and execution. By combining rights-based, participatory approaches with ecosystem restoration, the project empowers climate-vulnerable groups to shape solutions, protect shared resources, and sustain long-term climate impact, while advancing social equity and inclusive leadership in climate action.
