Project Summary / Description:
Dabo11 Energy is a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) LPG clean cooking initiative operating in Uganda under Afrotym. We help low-income households transition from charcoal and firewood to clean, modern cooking by removing upfront costs and making LPG simple, safe, and desirable. Our smart LPG system uses metered cylinders that are remotely monitored for gas levels, usage, and safety. Households pay only for the gas they use through mobile money, while Dabo11 manages installation, monitoring, and refill scheduling. Customers never worry about running out of gas, cylinder safety, or large refill payments. Launched in 2025, Dabo11 Energy currently serves 20 paying households. When we directly replace biomass fuels with LPG, we deliver immediate reductions in greenhouse gas and black carbon emissions, improve household health, and free families, especially women, from hours spent collecting firewood or inhaling harmful smoke. We walk the cooking journey of every household, making cooking safe, healthy, and aspirational for communities that have relied on charcoal for generations.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Dabo11 Energy is built for, and alongside, communities that are often excluded from climate solutions, low-income households that rely on charcoal and firewood for daily cooking. In Uganda, this burden falls disproportionately on women and children, who spend hours collecting fuel and are most exposed to indoor air pollution. When we enable affordable access to clean cooking, our project directly improves health, safety, and time autonomy for women, allowing them to redirect time toward income, education, and care work. Our model uproots barriers that keep climate solutions out of reach for climate-vulnerable households. Families pay only for the gas they use, making clean energy accessible without debt or risk. These communities are also represented within our organization. Our operations and field coordination are led by women with deep experience working in informal and peri-urban communities. Field teams are recruited locally, creating youth employment and trusted community relationships.
