How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Nunam’s project empowers underrepresented and climate-vulnerable communities by enabling reliable, affordable clean energy in regions where grid access is limited and diesel dependence is high. Our second-life battery systems are deployed in rural and peri-urban areas, supporting livelihoods, small businesses, healthcare services, and education—directly benefiting communities that are often excluded from the clean energy transition. By replacing short-lived lead-acid batteries and reducing diesel usage, Nunam improves local air quality and system reliability, reducing health and economic burdens that disproportionately affect women and low-income households. Reliable power also enables income-generating activities and digital access for youth in underserved regions. Within our organization, Nunam actively builds local technical capacity by employing and training engineers, technicians, and field staff from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Our team reflects India’s diversity and includes professionals who have worked closely with rural energy systems, ensuring that community realities shape product design and deployment. Empowerment is embedded not just in who we serve, but in how we design, deploy, and scale our solutions.
