How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
HopeCycle Solutions actively empowers underrepresented groups by creating inclusive economic and environmental opportunities. The project engages community-based waste collectors, many of whom are women, youth, and residents of marginalized neighborhoods, providing stable income and skills in circular economy practices. By compensating collectors fairly and offering training in plastic sorting, recycling, and entrepreneurship, we build local capacity and promote economic empowerment for groups often excluded from formal employment and climate action initiatives. Women and youth also play key roles within the organization. Our operations team includes female supervisors who manage collection logistics and quality control, while youth coordinators lead community engagement campaigns. This ensures that underrepresented voices are involved in decision-making, project design, and implementation. By linking climate impact with social inclusion, HopeCycle enables communities that are both environmentally vulnerable and socially marginalized to actively participate in climate solutions. Additionally, affordable recycled spectacle frames improve access to eye care for low-income populations, addressing health inequities that disproportionately affect women and youth. Through these approaches, HopeCycle Solutions demonstrates that meaningful climate action can simultaneously reduce emissions, improve livelihoods, and empower underrepresented groups, creating a replicable model for inclusive, community-driven environmental impact.
Mission Statement:
To reduce plastic pollution and carbon emissions by transforming plastic waste into affordable spectacle frames that restore sight, protect the environment, and create dignified livelihoods in underserved communities.
