EASY-Green is a youth-led climate action initiative implemented by Education For All Somalia (EFASOM) that empowers Somali youth—especially women and marginalized groups—with green skills, leadership, and entrepreneurship to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while improving livelihoods. The initiative combines hands-on training in renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and climate-smart practices with mentorship and community-based action. By linking skills development to employment, youth-led enterprises, and local climate solutions, EASY-Green delivers measurable emissions reductions alongside education, economic empowerment, and social cohesion in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable contexts.

Overview:
EASY-UP aims to equip 200 Somali youth (aged 18–35) with market-relevant skills, digital literacy, and leadership training to enhance employability, personal growth, and community engagement. By prioritizing inclusion and gender equality, the project ensures that all young people, including women and marginalized youth, have access to opportunities to learn, innovate, and thrive.

Regions of Operation:
The initiative will be implemented across key districts in urban, peri-urban, and rural areas of Somalia where youth face the greatest barriers to education and skills development. These locations are selected based on need, potential impact, and scalability of youth empowerment programs.

Empowering Underrepresented Groups

EASY-Green explicitly targets groups underrepresented in climate action, including women, marginalized youth, and climate-vulnerable communities. Women often face cultural and economic barriers to education, leadership, and employment, while marginalized youth may lack access to training and low-carbon opportunities. The project addresses these gaps through gender-responsive recruitment, inclusive mentorship, and tailored training programs, ensuring equitable participation in all technical, entrepreneurial, and leadership activities. Community engagement strategies involve local leaders and parents to promote inclusion and overcome social barriers.

Within EFASOM, these groups are also well represented in governance and implementation. Women and youth occupy leadership roles in project coordination, training delivery, and mentorship, ensuring that program design and execution reflect the needs and perspectives of underrepresented communities. By embedding inclusion at every level, EASY-Green enables participants to develop leadership skills, launch climate-smart enterprises, and drive low-carbon initiatives in their communities. This dual approach—empowering participants and representing them within the organization—creates a sustainable, inclusive pathway for marginalized groups to actively shape Somalia’s climate and development future.
