Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Alchem8 is intentionally structured to benefit underrepresented groups in both climate innovation and the digital economy. Internally, leadership and core team roles are being built around women, people of color, and first‑generation scientists and engineers, with explicit hiring and mentorship goals tied to performance. The technical work is embedded in partnerships with universities and community colleges that serve diverse student populations, offering internships and research opportunities in green chemistry, thermal engineering, and climate‑aligned entrepreneurship. Externally, data‑center siting and water use often disproportionately affect climate‑vulnerable communities that already face water stress, pollution burdens, or limited access to digital infrastructure. By enabling water‑free cooling and more flexible siting of facilities, our solution can reduce pressure on local water systems and support fairer, more transparent siting discussions. As the project scales, the goal is to include community stakeholders early in project planning and to prioritize workforce development pathways, with existing local non-profit partners, for residents near new deployments, so that the benefits of climate‑smart digital infrastructure—jobs, tax base, improved resilience—are shared more equitably.
