Crece Selva Misionera is an ongoing community-based initiative that restores degraded lands in Argentina’s Atlantic Forest (Selva Misionera) through native reforestation and sustainable, climate-positive yerba mate agroforestry systems. Working with Indigenous Mbya Guaraní communities and smallholder yerba mate producers, the project strengthens climate resilience, protects watersheds, and delivers scalable greenhouse gas reductions, while supporting the resilience of historical, culturally significant yerba mate production.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

Crece Selva Misionera is designed and implemented in partnership with rural and Indigenous communities in the Upper Paraná Atlantic Forest, territories that are both climate-vulnerable and historically underrepresented in climate decision-making. The project prioritizes the active participation of women and youth across all stages of implementation, including planning, restoration activities, agroforestry management, and field-based monitoring.
Women and young people play key roles in nursery management, seed collection, planting teams, and local coordination, while also participating in community-level decision-making related to land use, species selection, and restoration priorities. Through paid work, technical training, and long-term engagement, the project contributes to income generation, food security, and strengthened local livelihoods, while building practical climate and ecological skills.
At the organizational level, Fundación Protestante Hora de Obrar embeds gender equity, community participation, and social inclusion as core institutional principles. These values are reflected in program teams, leadership structures, and governance processes, ensuring that community voices (particularly those of women and youth) inform strategic decisions. By integrating climate action with social justice and territorial development, Crece Selva Misionera positions underrepresented groups not as beneficiaries, but as central actors and leaders in designing and sustaining climate solutions.
