Project Summary / Description:
This initiative is an active, community-based climate mitigation program in Chouaifat, Mount Lebanon. It integrates solid waste management, food waste reduction, food preservation, composting, and women-led green livelihoods to reduce methane emissions, shorten food supply chains, and create scalable, low-cost climate solutions that strengthen community resilience.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)', 'Removes/stores GHGs (e.g., projects that capture, sequester, or otherwise enhance the "sinks" that accumulate and store GHGs)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Will Association’s work centers on empowering women, youth, and underserved communities through climate-positive livelihoods and skills development. Women play leadership roles in food preservation, community coordination, and training activities. Youth are engaged as environmental educators and program facilitators, building long-term climate leadership capacity. The initiative creates income opportunities for households facing economic instability while strengthening community resilience. These groups are represented in program design, implementation, and decision-making processes.
