Project Summary / Description:

Our initiative transforms agricultural and food waste into protein-rich Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae and organic compost (frass), thus preventing landfill emissions and reducing reliance on conventional feed. Our program provides hands-on training to farmers thus enabling replication and local adoption, while enhancing soil health and sequestering carbon. Validated by Climate KIC, the initiative achieves an average of 1,376 tCO₂e avoided annually, demonstrating measurable climate impact and a scalable, circular business model.

Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

We empower underrepresented groups in the climate movement by placing smallholder farmers, particularly women, youth, and climate-vulnerable rural communities, at the center of our BSF initiative. Our farmer aggregation and buy-back model lowers entry barriers by providing training, starter inputs, and a guaranteed market for BSF larvae, eggs, and compost. This enables women and youth to participate in climate-positive income generation without requiring land ownership or large capital investments.

Many of the farmers we work with are women responsible for household food systems and waste management. By converting organic waste into animal feed and soil regenerants, they gain new income streams while contributing directly to climate mitigation. Youth are engaged through hands-on training, enterprise development, and technical roles in BSF production, helping position agriculture as a viable, climate-smart livelihood.

ZuphiFarm itself is woman-led and owned, with women holding key leadership and operational roles. Our team works closely with local communities, markets, and farmer groups to ensure knowledge transfer, shared ownership, and long-term adoption.
