Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
We are committed to empowering groups traditionally underrepresented in the climate movement, including women, youth, and urban communities vulnerable to food insecurity. Our urban gardening programs actively target households in informal settlements and densely populated areas, where access to sustainable food systems is limited. By providing hands-on training, affordable gardening systems, and ongoing support, we enable women and youth to grow their own nutritious food, generate income from surplus produce, and develop climate-smart skills that strengthen their resilience. Within our organization, women and youth play central roles across operations, from garden design and training to community outreach and administrative management. Their leadership ensures that programs are responsive to the unique challenges these groups face and that decision-making reflects diverse perspectives. Our approach also emphasizes inclusive participation, ensuring that marginalized groups have equitable access to resources, knowledge, and decision-making. By equipping these communities with the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to implement sustainable, low-emission urban gardens, we will not only address climate change but also amplify the voices and agency of those most affected, fostering a more inclusive and representative climate movement in Kenya.
