Impact on Underrepresented Groups:

SPECTRA’s climate action model is built around empowering groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the climate movement, particularly rural women, smallholder farmers, tribal households, minority communities and climate-vulnerable youth. Our project areas in Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are characterized by water scarcity, degraded land and poverty, making these communities both highly exposed to climate impacts and central to climate solutions.

Women are at the core of SPECTRA’s work. More than one million women are organized into Self-Help Groups, village federations and women-led Producer Companies that manage savings, credit, agriculture, livestock and water systems. These women are not beneficiaries but decision-makers leading watershed committees, running dairy and goat enterprises, managing organic input production and maintaining water infrastructure. This ensures that climate investments are rooted in local ownership and long-term stewardship.

SPECTRA also actively engages rural youth through leadership, skill-building and climate-linked livelihoods, enabling them to become field facilitators, para-vets, Agri-entrepreneurs and data collectors. Within our organization, a large proportion of field staff, coordinators and community leaders come from the same villages and marginalized communities we serve, ensuring that those most affected by climate change are also those designing and driving the solutions.
