Primary Project Category:
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
Stitch Zero empowers underrepresented groups in the climate movement by embedding inclusion directly into both its leadership and operating model. The organization is youth led and woman co founded, ensuring that decision making reflects perspectives often excluded from climate innovation spaces. This leadership structure brings lived experience, local context, and long term accountability to the project’s climate goals. At the implementation level, Stitch Zero works closely with informal waste collectors, small scale textile aggregators, and manufacturing units located in climate vulnerable communities near textile dumping zones. By creating demand for low value and mixed textile waste, the project generates stable income opportunities for waste workers and small suppliers who are typically excluded from formal recycling value chains. Each mannequin produced supports employment for skilled and unskilled workers, particularly in regions with limited access to green jobs. Additionally, Stitch Zero actively engages students and youth through university led initiatives and social enterprise networks, building capacity in circular design and climate entrepreneurship. By combining inclusive leadership with localized job creation and skill development, the project ensures that those most affected by climate change are not only beneficiaries, but active participants in building solutions.
Mission Statement:
To drive a circular fashion economy by transforming textile waste into scalable, biodegradable alternatives that reduce environmental impact, replace plastic-intensive materials, and create measurable climate and social value.
