Project Summary / Description:
This initiative addresses climate-driven wildfire risk by testing surface-level polymer materials that reduce overheating and ignition risk on existing power lines, helping protect communities and enable reliable clean energy as temperatures rise.
How Project Affects Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions:
['Replaces/avoids GHGs (e.g., projects that replace sources of GHGs, such as the burning of fossil fuels for electricity, heat, transport, or other energy uses)', 'Reduces GHGs (e.g., projects that reduce sources of GHGs, such as through efficiency or other changes in consumption)']
Impact on Underrepresented Groups:
This project focuses on reducing wildfire risk and power shutoffs that disproportionately impact climate-vulnerable communities, including rural areas, low-income households, and communities of color that are often located in high fire-risk regions. Public safety power shutoffs and wildfire damage carry significant economic, health, and safety burdens for these communities, and improving grid resilience directly addresses those inequities. The approach is designed to work within existing infrastructure and maintenance practices, avoiding costly rebuilds that can delay protection for underserved regions. By enabling faster, more capital-efficient mitigation, the project prioritizes impact where risk is highest rather than where investment is easiest. Representation is also personal. I grew up in a remote Himalayan village in Nepal and later trained as an engineer in the United States, bringing lived experience from a community directly affected by environmental stress and limited infrastructure. The organization is founder-led and actively building an inclusive team as it grows, with a focus on practical skills, field experience, and diverse perspectives relevant to climate adaptation and infrastructure resilience.
